Lila

ALL IOWA READS!

The book chosen for the 2016 All Iowa Reads is Lila by Marilynne Robinson.  From the book: “Marilynne Robinson, one of greatest novelists of our time, returns to the town of Gilead in the unforgettable story of a girlhood lived on the fringes of society in fear, awe, and wonder.  Lila, homeless and alone after years of roaming the countryside, steps inside a small-town Iowa church-the only available shelter from the rain-and ignites a romance and a debate that will reshape her life.  Revisiting the beloved characters and setting of Marilynne Robinson’s Pulitzer Prize –winning Gilead and Home, a National Book Award finalist, Lila is a moving expression of the mysteries of existence that is destined to become an American classic.  This book is available to check out at the Alton Public Library!

One_Book

Now in its 10th year, One Book, One Siouxland brings public libraries together around one great book!  This year, readers voted for the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.

“Unbroken is certainly one great book, based on the true story of Olympic runner and WWII airman Louis Zamperini.  He and a crewmate survived over 40 days in the open ocean when their plane was shot down, only to endure the brutality of life as POWs in Japan.”

The original version of Unbroken or the copy adapted for young adults are available at the Alton Public Library.  The WILBOR collection also has copies for you to download to your device.

Free Wireless Internet is available at Alton Public Library for your personal computer
